Welcome to Blue Coat Church of England School & Music College

At Blue Coat Church of England School, our vision is “Living life in all its fullness”. We exist to equip our students to live life in all its fullness by providing excellent education which is distinctively Christian and inclusive of all. We aim to provide a broad & ambitious curriculum that provides all students with the opportunity to flourish academically and achieve their god given potential.

In John 10:10 in the Bible, we hear of Jesus saying that ‘Life in all its fullness’ is found in Him. It is God’s desire to see us flourishing in abundant Kingdom living – so that inspires everything we are and all we do at Blue Coat.

We want all our children and staff to live an abundant life; academic success is important yet we recognise that personal and spiritual development are a priority and our role as educators is to support the development of the whole child.

Blue Coat A level and BTEC Success

Congratulations to all of our students who received their results today.  We are delighted with their achievements and especially their destinations including a wide range of universities, courses, apprenticeships and gap years.  For all of our Year 13 students, it was their first time taking public examinations following the COVID pandemic and we are very proud of all they have achieved overcoming many challenges to do so.  Over 84% of students achieved their first-choice destination.

As one of the largest and most inclusive sixth forms in the city with over 440 entries, we are delighted to report that results remained strong overall with an increase in A*-A grades at 21% and A* grades at 7.5%.  We wish all of our students every success in the next stage of their lives as they leave Blue Coat and continue to ‘live life in all its fullness’.

GCSE Results 2023

Blue Coat students have excelled in their GCSE examinations in 2023. We are absolutely delighted with the results they have achieved. This year’s results see a return to the pre-pandemic grading system with no allowance made for the challenges of COVID. With over two thousand GCSEs being sat, we are thrilled that over 27% of these grades were achieved at Grade 7 or above which is significantly higher than the national average. Whilst our most able students have performed exceptionally well, we are particularly pleased that over 75% of our students passed both their English and Maths GCSEs which is again significantly above national average and maintains the strong GCSE results profile of previous years .  Our progress score is positive which demonstrates that Blue Coat students have performed better than the national average. We are proud of our students and the hard work they have displayed supported by excellent staff and committed parents/carers whom have enabled them to flourish.  Most importantly, Blue Coat students embody our vision and values in ‘living life in all its fullness’.

We were delighted to see so many happy faces when the students picked up their results and the number of students choosing to continue their education into the sixth form remains high. We are also enrolling a number of external applicants for September and look forward to welcoming all students to our brand new purpose-built sixth form building which opens on September 6th , 2023.
