Blue Coat Named National Secondary School of the Year Silver Winner

Blue Coat Church of England School and Music College is celebrating one of the highest honours a school can receive after being named a Silver Winner in the Making a Difference – Secondary School of the Year category at the Pearson National Teaching Awards.

Announced on National Thank a Teacher Day, the award places Blue Coat among just six secondary schools across the country to receive this prestigious national recognition, celebrating the exceptional impact the school has on its students, families and wider community.

Often referred to as the "Oscars of Education", the Pearson National Teaching Awards recognise excellence across the education sector. As a Silver Winner, Blue Coat now progresses to the national finals, where Gold Award winners will be announced in November at a prestigious awards ceremony in London. The celebration will also be featured on BBC One's The One Show, showcasing some of the very best schools and educators from across the country.

The award was presented by David Tyler, Head of Growth – Direct & Trade at Pearson, who spent time meeting students, staff and partners during his visit to the school.

Speaking at the presentation, David said:

"My first impression of Blue Coat is complete joy. The amazing things past pupils, current pupils and school partners shared completely blew me away. The morning was full of hope. It's not easy out there, but hearing these stories fills me with optimism. You can see the impact Blue Coat has on its community and it brings a big smile to your face."

The award recognises the school's commitment to helping every student flourish academically, personally and spiritually through exceptional opportunities, strong partnerships and a culture built around service, aspiration and care.

Lisa Wright, Headteacher at Blue Coat Church of England School and Music College, said:

"To actually be announced as a Silver Winner is incredible. We are absolutely delighted and now eagerly await November when the Gold Award winners are announced and celebrated nationally on BBC One's The One Show.

"To receive this recognition on Thank a Teacher Day makes it even more special. It gives us a genuine opportunity to thank every single member of our staff community for the difference they make every day. This award belongs to all of them."

This national recognition reflects the dedication of Blue Coat's staff, students, governors, families and community partners, whose collective efforts continue to transform lives and create opportunities for young people.

The entire Blue Coat community is immensely proud of this achievement and looks forward to representing Coventry on the national stage later this year.
