Core Themes
Our school embraces three core themes that guide our ethos and educational practices:
Healing the Wounds of History: We recognize the importance of acknowledging past injustices and working towards healing. By understanding history, our students learn the significance of empathy and the power of forgiveness, encouraging them to be agents of change.
Living with Difference and Celebrating Diversity: We celebrate the rich tapestry of backgrounds and beliefs within our school community. Our curriculum and activities promote respect and understanding, teaching students to appreciate differences and embrace inclusivity.
Building a Culture of Peace: Peacebuilding is at the heart of our mission. We instill in our students the importance of conflict resolution, restorative practices, and the development of healthy relationships, ensuring that our school environment is one of safety and support.
These themes are integral to the daily life of our school. They shape our curriculum, enhance pupil voice, and influence our restorative practices, all while enriching the spiritual life of our community. Our commitment to these principles is evident in our anti-bullying strategies, conflict management approaches, celebrations of diversity, and pastoral care, including behaviour management.
Litany of Reconciliation
Central to our identity as an ICONS school is the Litany of Reconciliation, which we regularly incorporate into our tutor group collective worship, assemblies, and special services like Remembrance Day. This litany serves as a powerful reminder of our call to be peacemakers and reconciliators, encouraging students to reflect on their actions and commitments to building a harmonious community.
Through our involvement with ICONS, we strive to empower our students, staff, and families to embody the values of peacebuilding and reconciliation—principles that resonate deeply with the teachings of the Kingdom of God and the life of our city. Together, we are nurturing a generation of compassionate leaders who are prepared to make a positive difference in the world.

Peace Showcase
Each year, we are proud to take part in the Peace Showcase at Coventry Cathedral, where our students have the opportunity to share their learning about peace, reconciliation and positive action with pupils from schools across Coventry.
The event celebrates the inspiring work of young people who are helping to build stronger, more compassionate communities. Through presentations, discussions and collaborative activities, our students showcase how they have explored themes of peace, justice and reconciliation both within school and beyond.
Last year, we were especially honoured to attend the launch of UNESCO's Seeds of Hope peace initiative. Being part of this significant event highlighted our ongoing commitment to promoting peace education and empowering our students to become active, thoughtful citizens who can make a positive difference in the world.

Coventry Lord Mayor's Peace and Reconciliation Award
Blue Coat CofE School and Music College was proud to receive the Coventry Lord Mayor's Peace and Reconciliation Award during its Easter Service on Friday 27th March 2026. The award was presented by Councillor Rachel Lancaster, then Lord Mayor of Coventry, alongside Coventry's official Lady Godiva, Pru Porretta MBE, recognising the school's commitment to promoting peace, inclusion and reconciliation across its community.
The award celebrates schools that embed the values of peace, justice and community throughout school life, recognising meaningful work with pupils, staff and the wider community.
For Blue Coat, the award reflects its Christian vision of Living Life in All its Fullness, encouraging students to celebrate diversity, build understanding, serve others with compassion and make a positive difference both within school and across Coventry. Receiving this prestigious civic honour is a testament to the dedication of students, staff and the wider school community in creating a culture where everyone can flourish.
