Celebrating World Afro Day at Blue Coat
Blue Coat marked the 10th anniversary of World Afro Day with a special ‘Fro Day’ celebration, bringing students and staff together to celebrate Afro hair, culture and identity.
World Afro Day provides an opportunity to celebrate Afro hair while raising awareness of hair discrimination and the importance of representation. As part of the day, members of our school community were invited to wear flowers in their hair and take part in activities celebrating identity and culture.
In our special World Afro Day video, Daniela shares her own experience of learning to embrace her natural hair and why seeing people confidently celebrating their Afro hair and identity matters.
We also hear from Latoya, who wrote and performed a poem to celebrate 10 years of World Afro Day, exploring identity, equality and what makes each of us ‘glow’.
The celebration reflects Blue Coat’s commitment to creating a community where everyone feels represented, valued and able to celebrate who they are.
